You have to do the certain right things everyday in order to be successful in any endeavor. As Anthony Robbins says, the quality of your life is based on the quality of your habits.
Did you know that we do 90% of the same things everyday? That's right so 90% of the things that you do today, you did yesterday. So make sure the things you will do today or tomorrow are things that you want to keep on doing.
So if 90% of the things we do are the same everyday, how do we change them? Eben Pagan introduced to me the concept of Habit Gravity. Basically this means that while you cultivate new habits, your old habits will fight against the new ones.
So there are three stages when trying to create new habits. It usually takes 90 days of daily use to solidify a new habit.
The first phase is the phase with the most resistance. You know that a space shuttle launch, that 85% of fuel is burnt in the first few minutes? That's right, 85% of the energy it takes to get something outer space is on the first few minutes.
That's because of gravity. So "Habit Gravity" means the first month of creating a habit is the hardest. So you have to keep at it that first month. You will totally won't want to do that thing that you want to do. This could be exercising everyday.
That first month of trying to exercise everyday will be the hardest. But once you get past that first month you will be in stage two.
The second stage of forming a new habit is the Expectation Stage. Where you expect yourself to do the habit, but it isn't in grained yet. So you will still have to put in a little bit of conscious energy into doing the new habit. This typically last about a month.
The third stage, or how Eben calls it, is "Escape Velocity". This is where your habit will be so strong that it will actually feel weird if you don't do your new habit.
Once you reach this stage it'll be easier to do your new habit then to resist it. This is the stage you want to be at. Remember when you are creating a new habit that the first month will be the hardest.
This is natural and you have to fight it with all your will. Remember the big picture of why you wanted to create this habit in the first place.
